Frédéric Tavernini did his training at l’Ecole de Danse de l’Opéra de Paris and obtain his Diplôme d’État en danse classique et contemporaine. Professionally, he began working with the Ballet National de Nancy and Ballet de Lorraine. Subsequently, he was a soloist for the Béjart Ballet Lausanne, the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and the Ballet National de Marseille. During this phase of his performing career he worked with choreographers : Jiry Kylian, Angelin Preljocaj, William Forsythe, Maurice Béjart, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Carolyn Carlson, Nacho Duato, Trisha Brown and Maguy Marin.
He then began to collaborate with contemporary dance companies in Montreal. Having established himself as a dancer with a solid technique, a charismatic performer and a talented improviser, he danced for Louise Lecavalier, Danièle Desnoyers, Dave St-Pierre, Lynda Gaudreau and Virginie Brunelle.
He began working as a choreographer in 2003. Under the name of Clovek & The 420 he created and presented his most recent work Wedged in the Red Room. He is now creating a new work called Le Tératome in collaboration with Anne Thériault, Jean-François Laporte and Alexandre Pilon-Guay which will be presented in 2013. He is also invited to work regularly as a maître de ballet for BJM Danse.
Frédéric Tavernini will teach a ballet class for contemporary dancers. The traditional progression of exercises at the barre and in the centre will permit dancers to fully use their technical and theatrical abilities through the classical vocabulary. The emphasis will be put on utilizing space and music to help the body find the harmony and richness of the codified language.
