LAURA ARIS ALVAREZ AND JORGE JAUREGUI

June 4-8. 9:30 am to 1:30 pm

Laura Aris Alvarez followed a dance and choreography training at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, where se was awarded the Prize for Extraordinary Student in 1996. Between 1996 and 1999, she was part of Lanonima Imperial Dance Company and collaborated with the General Electrica collective in Barcelona.

Laura has been a member of the company Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus from 1999 to 2008 and took part in many of its creations and tours. She regularly teaches workshops related to the Ultima Vez dance vocabulary and gives contemporary technique classes worldwide.

Jorge Jauregui worked with the collectives Moare and Ikutu in Vitoria, Basque Country, before moving to Barcelona in 2001, where he participated in several productions by Damian Muñoz Danza. In 2002, he created the performance El rato de José, together with Idoia Zabaleta and German Jauregui Allue.

Jorge joined Ultima Vez in 2004 for the revival of Wim Vandekeybus‘s second piece. He has been a member of the company for the productions PuurSpiegelMenske, and the dance film Here After.

In 2009, Laura and Jorge created EMBER, an artistic platform that holds their work. They collaborate with several artists and present their performances internationally.

Technical exercises and games will be the starting point for group and partner work. Set up situations will be used to develop trust in the other and get dancers to act under risk, speed, and power. Recognizable human relationships will enable them to create images, define energies, and invent stories. Participants will explore some given elements and steps but they will also be invited to play with their own material within a defined context.
